Reading the range display

On a range or oven the fault appears on the clock or oven display, often with a beep. Press Cancel or Clear once to silence it, and write the code down first. Check the model-number prefix first: the same Kenmore code can mean different things depending on the manufacturer.

Kenmore is a private label, and the factory that built your unit decides which fault codes it shows. The first digits of a Kenmore model number (110, 417, 665, 795, 796 and so on) tell you whether Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux or Frigidaire made it. Check the model label on your unit before using any chart.

What causes F13

How to fix it

  1. Turn off the range at the breaker (and gas valve if gas) and let it cool.
  2. Look at the bake and broil elements or igniter for blisters, cracks or breaks.
  3. Reseat the connector at the control board.
  4. Measure the oven sensor at room temperature (about 1080 ohms is typical for a probe) and check the element resistance.
  5. Replace the part that is out of range and reseat connectors that look heat-damaged.
  6. Restore power and run a bake cycle at 350 F, checking the temperature with an oven thermometer.

Questions

What does error F13 mean on a Kenmore range?

The oven sensor signal is out of range or the control is failing. Kenmore sells units built by several manufacturers, so the code table that applies depends on who made your model; use the model number to confirm.

Can I keep using my range while F13 is showing?

Cooktop burners may keep working, but avoid the oven until the fault is cleared.

How do I clear F13, and can I fix it myself?

Cancel the program, switch the appliance off and leave it unplugged (or the breaker off) for about five minutes, then restart. The code only stays cleared if the underlying problem is fixed, so work through the steps above. Parts here involve electronics, heating or sealed components, so consider a qualified technician if the basic checks do not clear it.
