Reading the refrigerator display

On a refrigerator the code shows on the control panel or dispenser display. Some models flash a letter or alternate two characters; hold the code in view and note both. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.

LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

What causes Er FF

How to fix it

  1. Move the food to another fridge or a cooler.
  2. Put dry towels on the floor around the refrigerator.
  3. Unplug it and leave both doors fully open for at least 24 hours, up to three days in winter, so the ice melts on its own.
  4. Wipe the interior dry, close the doors and plug it in.
  5. Give it 24 to 48 hours to reach normal temperature.
  6. If Er FF returns within days, the fan motor or defrost system needs service.

Questions

Can I use a hair dryer to melt the ice?

No. Heat can warp the plastic and create a fire hazard. Let it melt naturally.

Is Er rF the same?

Er rF is the matching fault for the fresh-food compartment fan, and the defrost fix is the same.

Why did the ice build up?

Usually a door that did not seal, or a defrost problem.
