Craftsman Opener Error Code 1-1: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: 11, Up 1 Down 1, 1 flash 1 flash
Reading the opener display
A garage door opener reports faults through blinking LEDs on the motor head, a diagnostic window on the logic board, or the wall control. Count the flashes slowly and repeat the count before you decide what you saw. Craftsman openers follow the Chamberlain flash chart.
Craftsman garage door openers are made by the Chamberlain Group under license, so they share the LiftMaster and Chamberlain diagnostic codes. Look for a model number starting with 139. on the label. Check the model label on your unit before using any chart.
What causes 1-1
- A sensor wire cut or pulled loose behind a door track or garage-door bracket
- Staples or a screw penetrating the bell wire
- A loose wire nut or terminal screw at the opener or at a sensor
- A sensor that was never installed or has been removed
How to fix it
- Look at both sensors by the door; each should show a lit indicator (one amber, one green).
- Follow the thin two-wire cable from each sensor to the opener and check for cuts, staples and kinks.
- Reseat the wires on the sensor terminals and the opener terminals (white/white-black pair, never swapped).
- Re-strip and reconnect any damaged length, or splice in new bell wire.
- Plug the opener back in and run a close cycle; the arrows should stop flashing.

Questions
What does 1-1 mean on a Craftsman opener?
It means the safety sensor circuit is open, usually from a loose or cut wire or a missing sensor.
Will the door close from the wall button?
Not normally. Holding the wall control can sometimes force a close on older units, but fix the wiring rather than relying on that.
Is this a pro job?
Usually not. Most 1-1 faults are a loose terminal or a damaged wire you can repair with a screwdriver.
