Reading the range display

On a range or oven the fault appears on the clock or oven display, often with a beep. Press Cancel or Clear once to silence it, and write the code down first. GE writes letters and numbers together with no space, so E22 is one code, not E2 and 2.

GE Appliances, now owned by Haier, mixes legacy GE boards with newer connected platforms. Washers and dryers tend to use E or D codes, ranges and microwaves use F codes, and refrigerators show Er codes. The codes apply to model numbers such as GDF630PSMSS, GDT665SSNSS and GTD65EBSJ0WS; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

What causes F2

How to fix it

  1. Let the oven cool and cancel the code.
  2. Check the sensor, harness and connector at both ends for high resistance.
  3. Look for stuck relays; replace the control if contacts are welded.
  4. Replace the sensor if resistance is off.

Questions

What does the F2 code mean on a GE range?

The control sensed oven temperature above its limit: roughly 615-630 F during bake or 915-930 F during clean.

Can I fix the F2 code myself?

Start with the free checks (power reset, connectors, obvious blockages). The likely repair involves the oven temperature sensor and live-circuit testing, so if the code returns, a qualified technician is the safer call.

How do I clear the F2 code?

Press Clear/Off, then cut power to the oven at the breaker for five minutes before restoring it. If F2 comes back, the underlying fault is still there; start with this: welded bake or broil relay contacts.
