Reading the refrigerator display

On a refrigerator the code shows on the control panel or dispenser display. Some models flash a letter or alternate two characters; hold the code in view and note both. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.

LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the refrigerator for 60 seconds, then plug it straight into a wall outlet (no power strip) and give it up to 5 minutes to restart.
  2. Check that the unit cools.
  3. Do not use the fridge for sensitive food.
  4. Request service.
