Reading the refrigerator display

On a refrigerator the code shows on the control panel or dispenser display. Some models flash a letter or alternate two characters; hold the code in view and note both. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.

LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

How to fix it

  1. Open the water tap fully.
  2. Check the hose for kinks.
  3. Unplug the refrigerator for 60 seconds, then plug it straight into a wall outlet (no power strip) and give it up to 5 minutes to restart.
  4. Check water pressure against the manual.
  5. Request service if gF returns.
