Craftsman Opener Error Code 2-4: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: 24, Up 2 Down 4
Reading the opener display
A garage door opener reports faults through blinking LEDs on the motor head, a diagnostic window on the logic board, or the wall control. Count the flashes slowly and repeat the count before you decide what you saw. Craftsman openers follow the Chamberlain flash chart.
Craftsman garage door openers are made by the Chamberlain Group under license, so they share the LiftMaster and Chamberlain diagnostic codes. Look for a model number starting with 139. on the label. Check the model label on your unit before using any chart.
What causes 2-4
- Surge or brownout damage
- A failed microcontroller or memory chip
- Dust and insects shorting the board
- A bad noise filter on the power feed
How to fix it
- Unplug the opener for a full 60 seconds, then plug it back in and try a cycle; some board faults are transient.
- Remove the light lens and head cover and look for burn marks, corrosion, bugs or loose connectors.
- Check that the wall control, sensors and travel module cables are firmly seated; a bad accessory can mimic a board fault.
- If the code returns, note the model number and order the matching logic board.
- Swap the board, relearn remotes and keypads, and run the limit and force setup.
