LG Dishwasher Error Code FE: Meaning and Fix

Reading the dishwasher display
A dishwasher reports its fault in the display window, or by blinking a cycle light a set number of times with a pause between groups. Count the blinks and pauses before opening the door. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes FE
- Inlet valve not closing completely
- Water level sensor fault
- Unit out of level or door misaligned
- Excess suds from the wrong detergent
How to fix it
- Load large pots and plates upside down so they do not trap water.
- Use only dishwasher detergent, not hand-washing liquid.
- Check the unit is level with a spirit level on the door and tub edge.
- Switch power off for a minute and run a short cycle.
- If FE persists on a level unit with proper detergent, replace the inlet valve or request service.

Questions
Is FE the same as AE?
They share causes. AE is a leak and FE is too much water, and some manuals list them together.
Does FE damage the dishwasher?
It is a protection, but repeated overfills can stress the pump.
Can I unplug a built-in dishwasher?
Use the switch or breaker that controls it if the plug is hidden.
