LG Dishwasher Error Code OE: Meaning and Fix

Reading the dishwasher display
A dishwasher reports its fault in the display window, or by blinking a cycle light a set number of times with a pause between groups. Count the blinks and pauses before opening the door. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes OE
- Dirty filter clogged with residue
- Power cut that left water in the tub
- Failed drain pump
- Hose end too low or garbage disposal knockout still sealed
- Drain hose kinked
How to fix it
- Wait 30 minutes after a cycle, then remove the lower rack.
- Turn the filter handle counterclockwise, lift it out, separate the inner and metal screens and rinse them under running water.
- Reassemble the filter and turn it clockwise until it clicks.
- Check the drain hose under the sink for kinks, keeping the end at least 30 cm above the floor.
- Power on and hold Start for three seconds to force a drain.
- If water remains above the filter, request service for the drain pump.
