LG Dishwasher Error Code IE: Meaning and Fix

Reading the dishwasher display
A dishwasher reports its fault in the display window, or by blinking a cycle light a set number of times with a pause between groups. Count the blinks and pauses before opening the door. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes IE
- Water outage or closed shutoff valve
- Failed inlet valve
- Valve left closed after installation
- Inlet hose bent or pressed
- Clogged inlet screen
How to fix it
- Check that the kitchen and bathroom taps have water.
- Look under the sink and straighten the inlet hose where it is bent or crushed by stored items.
- Open the shutoff valve at the dishwasher by turning it counterclockwise.
- Open the upstream shutoff valve fully as well.
- Restart the cycle.
- If the valves are open and water reaches the hose, replace the inlet valve.
