LG Dryer Error Code D80: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: d75, d90, d95
Reading the dryer display
On a dryer the code shows in the time-remaining window or as blinking status lights. Write down the characters before you press anything, because starting a new cycle usually clears the display. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes D80
- Lint packed in the rear duct or the vent run
- Overloaded drum or dirty lint tray
- Crushed, kinked or coiled exhaust hose behind the dryer
- Vent run too long or with too many 90-degree turns
- Outside vent flap jammed shut with lint
How to fix it
- Pull the lint tray, wash it with warm water and a soft brush, let it dry and reinsert it.
- Reduce the load size so air can move from back to front.
- Pull the dryer out and inspect the hose: no crush, no dents, no spring-like coils, and every joint tight.
- Go outside and check that the exhaust flap opens fully when the dryer runs on Air Dry; remove lint around it.
- Disconnect the duct and vacuum or brush out the entire run, including the section inside the wall.
- If the code stays, hire a vent cleaner and ask for run length and number of elbows, since an over-long run needs modification.

Questions
Do d75, d80, d90 and d95 mean different things?
They are the same problem at rising severity. The higher the number, the worse the restriction.
Can I fix this without a technician?
Often yes. Most cases are lint in the tray, hose or outside flap.
Why does a new dryer show d80?
A new install may have a crushed hose, too long a duct, or an existing duct clogged by the previous dryer.
