LG Dryer Error Code dE: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: DE
Reading the dryer display
On a dryer the code shows in the time-remaining window or as blinking status lights. Write down the characters before you press anything, because starting a new cycle usually clears the display. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes dE
- Door not fully closed or clothes caught in it
- Bent door or misaligned frame
- Lint filter not seated
- Failed door switch
How to fix it
- Open the door and make sure no clothing is caught.
- Push the lint filter in all the way.
- Unplug the dryer or trip the breaker, wait 5 seconds and restore power.
- Close the door firmly, select a cycle and press Start.
- If dE persists, inspect the door catch and replace the door switch.
