Reading the dryer display

On a dryer the code shows in the time-remaining window or as blinking status lights. Write down the characters before you press anything, because starting a new cycle usually clears the display. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.

LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

What causes nP

Tripped or weak 240V breaker leg
Failed heating element
Loose or burned terminal at the outlet or cord
Open thermal fuse

How to fix it

Switch the dryer breaker fully off for at least ten seconds, then back on.
Check that the dryer cord is fully seated and that the outlet and terminals are not scorched.
Use a meter to confirm each hot leg at the outlet shows about 120V to ground (about 240V across the legs).
Run a short timed dry and feel for heat at the exhaust.
If the supply is good and there is still no heat, have the thermal fuse and heating element tested.
