LG Washer Error Code dE2: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: E30
Reading the washer display
On a washer the code appears on the digital display or as a pattern of flashing cycle lights. Note it exactly, including any dashes or sub-codes, then unplug the washer for five minutes and run a short drain cycle to see whether it returns. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes dE2
- Door latch hook bent or broken
- Overfilled drum forcing the door out
- Weak or failed door lock assembly
- Items trapped in the lock area
- Loose lock connector
How to fix it
- Stop the cycle, unplug the washer and clear everything out of the gasket and lock area.
- Close the door slowly and watch whether the hook seats fully in the lock.
- Reduce the load by about a third and retry.
- Hold Start/Pause for five seconds while the power is off, then restore power and start a Rinse + Spin.
- If it still fails, replace the door lock assembly with the latch straight and the connector seated.

Questions
Is dE2 dangerous?
No, it is a protection. The washer refuses to run with the door unlocked.
Can I bypass the door lock?
Do not. The lock prevents the drum spinning while open, and bypassing it is a safety hazard.
How long does a lock replacement take?
For most DIYers about 30 to 45 minutes with the front panel removed.
