LG Washer Error Code FE: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: E04, E12
Reading the washer display
On a washer the code appears on the digital display or as a pattern of flashing cycle lights. Note it exactly, including any dashes or sub-codes, then unplug the washer for five minutes and run a short drain cycle to see whether it returns. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes FE
- Inlet valve stuck open
- Faulty water level sensor
- Excess suds fooling the sensor
- Main board fault
- Pressure hose loose or clogged
How to fix it
- Turn off the faucets and unplug the washer.
- Let the pump drain the tub, then run a Spin Only to clear leftover water.
- Check the small pressure hose from the tub to the sensor for kinks or detergent buildup.
- Cut your detergent and run a Tub Clean cycle.
- Reconnect water and start a short cycle while watching the fill level.
- If water keeps entering with the washer off, replace the inlet valve.

Questions
Why does water keep running after FE?
A stuck inlet valve can pass water even when the washer is off. Keep the faucets shut until it is replaced.
Can too much detergent cause FE?
Yes, suds can mimic a high water level.
Is FE urgent?
Yes. Overfill can flood the floor, so keep the faucets closed until it is diagnosed.
