LG Washer Error Code IE: Meaning and Fix

Also shown as: E02, E10
Reading the washer display
On a washer the code appears on the digital display or as a pattern of flashing cycle lights. Note it exactly, including any dashes or sub-codes, then unplug the washer for five minutes and run a short drain cycle to see whether it returns. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes IE
- Faucets turned off or the water supply cut at the house
- Failed water inlet valve
- Clogged screen filter at the hose end
- Kinked or crushed inlet hose
- Frozen supply line in winter
How to fix it
- Confirm both hot and cold faucets are fully open (turn counterclockwise) and that another tap in the house is running.
- Pull the washer out slightly and straighten any bend in the inlet hoses.
- Shut off the faucets, unscrew each hose from the back of the washer, and pull out the small mesh filter with pliers.
- Rinse sand and rust off the filter, refit it, and reconnect the hoses hand-tight plus a quarter turn.
- In freezing weather wrap the faucet with a hot wet cloth for five minutes and thaw the hoses in water below 120 F.
- If water flows freely at the hoses and the error repeats, the inlet valve is likely failing.

Questions
Why does IE mostly happen in winter?
Supply lines and hoses can freeze, which blocks flow. Thaw them gently with warm water, never boiling water.
Could low water pressure cause IE?
Yes. Very low household pressure fills the tub too slowly and trips the fill timer, so check flow at a nearby tap.
Can I clean the inlet filter myself?
Yes. Close the faucet, disconnect the hose, remove the mesh with pliers or tweezers and rinse it. Never run the washer without the filter in place.
