Reading the washer display

On a washer the code appears on the digital display or as a pattern of flashing cycle lights. Note it exactly, including any dashes or sub-codes, then unplug the washer for five minutes and run a short drain cycle to see whether it returns. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.

LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.

What causes PE

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the washer and wait ten seconds.
  2. Find the clear pressure hose from the tub to the sensor and make sure it is attached at both ends.
  3. Blow gently through the hose to clear soap residue.
  4. Inspect the sensor connector on the main board.
  5. Power back on and run a Rinse cycle to see if the level reads correctly.
  6. Replace the pressure switch if the error persists.

Questions

What does the water level sensor do?

It measures air pressure in a small hose to tell the board how deep the water is.

Can I replace it myself?

Often yes; it is a simple clip-in part behind the top panel.

Is PE the same as FE?

No. PE is a sensor failure and FE is detected overfilling.
