LG Washer Error Code tE: Meaning and Fix

Reading the washer display
On a washer the code appears on the digital display or as a pattern of flashing cycle lights. Note it exactly, including any dashes or sub-codes, then unplug the washer for five minutes and run a short drain cycle to see whether it returns. LG codes are short letter pairs; a capital O differs from a zero.
LG appliances show short alphabetic codes (OE, IE, UE on washers, Er plus letters on refrigerators) and, on ThinQ models, a Smart Diagnosis option. LG also builds many Kenmore Elite units. The codes apply to model numbers such as LDF7774ST, LDT5678SS and DLEX3900B; check the label on your unit to confirm yours.
What causes tE
- Failed wash thermistor
- Very hot water poured directly into the drum
- Loose connector at the thermistor
- Board input fault
How to fix it
- Unplug the washer for 10 seconds to clear a temporary fault.
- If you added very hot water, let it cool before restarting.
- Open the cabinet and inspect the thermistor connector at the tub for corrosion or loose pins.
- Measure the thermistor resistance against the service data and replace it if out of range.
- Restart a cold-water cycle to confirm.
- Call for service if heater and sensor circuits check out but the error persists.

Questions
Does tE affect cold washes?
Some models still run cold cycles; others stop completely.
Is the thermistor part of the heater?
They are separate parts but sit close together in the tub.
Why does tE appear after a long hot cycle?
Heat can reveal a marginal thermistor connection.
